"Ryan? What's wrong? »
"I'm the reason you're disabled."
It was like getting a slap in the face.
"What are you talking about?"
"I should have told you that years ago. But I was scared. Afraid that you will hate me. Afraid of losing yourself. »
I stood there, flabbergasted.
"Ryan, you saved me. You called the ambulance. You stayed with me. »
"I know. But it's more complicated than that. »
"What are you talking about?"
"Then explain to me"
He shook his head.
"I can't. Not yet. I just needed you to know that I'm in charge. »
He stood up abruptly.
"I need to get some fresh air."
"Ryan, don't go away like that!"
But he left.
I was left alone, still in a wedding dress, trying to understand what had just happened.

Ryan returned an hour later.
He apologized. He said he shouldn't have thrown this at me on our wedding night. But he refused to explain to me further.
I asked to sleep alone. I needed time to think.
