Auchan is going to close a dozen stores, is yours one of them?

More than 2,000 jobs at risk

As part of this social plan, there will also be a change with regard to home deliveries. Three dedicated warehouses are expected to close their doors, in Paris, Lille and Lyon, leaving the stores to provide this service directly. This should not change anything for customers, but it therefore implies job cuts. In all, 2,389 people could lose their jobs. The drive-thru will be further highlighted, with the creation of 114 new workstations to help consumers fill their fridges without wasting time on the shelves.

To improve the profitability of its stores, the Auchan group announced last July that it was tackling the size of 65 of its stores to reduce them by 25%. The aim is not to exceed 8,000 m² of surface area. The food giant also intends to attack its products that are not edible and that no longer sell as well, because of competition, especially from e-commerce. At the Auchan group's headquarters, 205 jobs will be created to set up a "more agile and autonomous" organization. It must be said that in the first six months of 2024, the group lost nearly one billion euros net, forcing it to make changes to save its economic situation. However, the management has assured that it takes into account the loss of jobs of its employees, trying to support them as best as possible, to help them retrain with training or to propose voluntary redundancy plans.
